Recently I have heard such an overwhelming statement from a fellow Christian: ‘The Word of God and teaching in the church is not enough for me. Private sessions with a psychiatrist give me more’.
Frankly, it knocked me down. Such a thought has never crossed my mind. Just think it over – the Word of our Almighty God can be not enough! That even sounds funny.
Don’t get me wrong – I have nothing against receiving help from a psychiatrist. I have a mentor with a degree in psychology and she is a Christian. We meet occasionally when I am stuck in my way. Nevertheless, freedom and deliverance come from the Lord. When the Word of God reaches me, it transforms me from the inside.
What is your foundation?
As Christ followers, we should be certain and firm where the foundation of our faith lies. My faith is built on the Bible. Here are some fundamental things every believer should stand on from my opinion.
The Words of God is the source of everything necessary for my soul and my spirit
“For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (AM)
This gives us the main principles what attitude to have towards the Word of God:
We can have different sources of information and understanding of our problems, but the deliverance comes from God.
